The UFC heavyweight division just sent a pretty loud message. Rankings don’t guarantee safety. Style matters. Momentum, though, matters more.
On February 11, 2026, the Ultimate Fighting Championship released No. 8-ranked heavyweight Jailton Almeida days after his unanimous decision loss to Rizvan Kuniev at UFC Vegas 113. The cut followed a split decision defeat to Alexander Volkov at UFC 321. Back-to-back losses. Mounting criticism over his control-heavy grappling. And a growing perception that the promotion is cracking down on low-action performances.
Per reporting on February 21, 2026, Almeida finally addressed the move via social media after nine days of silence (via MMA Fighting):
“Guys, I’m here to thank all of you who cheer for me, who celebrate with me, and who followed my journey in the UFC. I had 11 fights, four ‘Performance of the Night’ [bonuses], and I feel very fulfilled to be part of this organization. Thanks to the entire UFC staff, everyone who helped me and gave that support. Everyone was polite and treated me very well.”
He thanked the UFC staff and fans for their support across an 8-3 Octagon run. However, he also alluded that two defeats won’t frame his legacy.
“It’s not these two losses that will define who I am. I’m a dedicated, focused, determined guy. Humble, as I’ve always been.”
The 34-year-old teased imminent news and promised a return elsewhere. His management reportedly has interest from multiple promotions. The context, however, matters. UFC President Dana White had previously criticized inactivity in grappling-heavy fights, once warning that controlling without damage won’t cut it. Almeida had even discussed a potential move back to light heavyweight before his release.
Jailton Almeida Signs With ACA After UFC Exit
Almeida didn’t stay unemployed for long, folks. Just ten days after being cut by the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Malhadinho has landed in Russia. On Feb. 21, 2026, Absolute Championship Akhmat (ACA) announced his signing via Telegram, giving him a fresh stage in one of Europe’s toughest promotions.
Sources say there were brief talks with the Professional Fighters League, but nothing materialized. ACA moved fast and closed the deal.
Jailton Almeida exits the UFC with wins over names like Derrick Lewis and Jairzinho Rozenstruik. However, recent setbacks cost him momentum. Now he resets overseas, with reigning ACA champ Alikhan Vakhaev potentially looming down the line.
